What is active corrosion protection?

aktiver KorrosionsschutzPrecious jewellery deserves to be stored savely. Through intensive efforts, we have managed to manufacture a new generation of jewellery boxes. Inside these boxes we use material that actively counteract the corrosion of jewellery. With this world first we are taking jewellery storage to the next level.

Our active corrosion protection consists of particles that react much earlier than other particles with elements that are present in the atmosphere and cause and promote corrosion of jewellery. This means that the air is 'filtered' or cleansed of corrosion-causing particles. This helps to protect valuable jewellery from corrosion.

A similar technology has given the Statue of Liberty its patina since 1980. We have adapted this idea and integrated it into SACHER jewellery storage.

The active corrosion protection is environmentally friendly, RoHS compliant, TRGS 615 and TRGS 900 compliant, recyclable, easy to dispose of and free of outgassing chemicals (nitrite, phenols, etc.)

Care instructions for jewellery

Even if our corrosion protection actively protects jewellery, non-observance of the following guidelines can lead to jewellery corrosion:
  • Do not use harsh detergents
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove sweat and the finest dirt particles
  • Warm water helps with heavy soiling
  • It is best to store your jewellery in a multi-part jewellery box, because too close together increases the risk of corrosion. (Silver, gold and platinum have different tensions depending on the grade)
  • Pay attention to passive or active corrosion protection when purchasing your jewellery storage
  • Only put on your jewellery after applying cosmetics, because hair varnish, perfumes, deodorants, sun creams, powder etc. damage your jewellery
  • Do not store your jewellery in damp rooms - moisture causes silver jewellery to oxidize over time
  • Do not wear your jewellery when doing gardening, household chores, exercising, taking a shower, sunbathing or visiting the sauna.

Please take note of the following guidelines

There are many factors that can damage jewellery and make it corrode. Therefore, the following guidelines should be considered when storing jewellery:
  • Do not store jewellery in a humid and warm humid environment
  • Avoid too high air humidity (even a closed jewellery box only acts as a buffer zone for a short time)
  • Avoid corrosive environment
  • Avoid sprays and chemicals of any kind
  • Avoid salt deposits from the sea air
  • Contact corrosion - do not store gold, silver and platinum jewellery too close together
  • Jewellery boxes should be made from tested materials and solvent-free adhesives
